In case you’re wondering what an earthquake feels like, here’s a brief summary:
1. You feel the floor start to bounce, and you assume someone must be running down the hall.
2. It starts bouncing even more- you wonder if it’s an Olympic heavyweight wrestler doing the running.
3. The room starts to shake back and forth and up and down. You realize that’s no Olympian.
4. You begin to fret, especially when you’re on the 8th floor of a building. You also realize that standing in the doorway will have no effect if the entire building comes down.
5. The shaking starts to die down, but the entire structure begins to sway, like you’re experiencing vertigo.
6. Panic sets in.
When I arrived home after the earthquake, I quickly assessed the apartment for damage. After my sweep was complete, I determined the only casualty was that the can of starch had fallen from the counter. I pointed it out to Matt when he got home, but he told me it’d been on the floor that morning. Turns out we’re just messy.
Where were you during the quake? Did you feel anything?
Happy Thursday!

This is too funny! That darn can of starch! 🙂 We need to make t-shirts that say, “Survived the East Coast Earthquake, Never Forget 8-23-11”.. This post made my day!
I was in Maine and missed the whole thing! Go figure!
I was sitting on a rock over looking Great Falls! Not a good feeling to feel the rock swaying back and forth and nothing to keep you from falling right into the water… but hey… it’s a cool story right??
NO!! I didn’t feel a thing!! I was so bummed :-/
I didn’t feel anything! I was driving in my car on my way back from lunch and was surprised when I was greeted with “DID YOU FEEL THAT?!?!”
haha!
HAHA!
Good eye Matt 😉
We’re in Alaska. Didn’t feel a thing. Glad you are OK. I know it must have been scary.
That swaying must have been quite scary.
I was laying on the beach and I felt movement under me. I sat straight up and looked around. My boyfriend was next to me and did the same. Every other person on the beach did the same thing for a minute. Then technology failed so we all thought it was the end of the world until we realized it was an earthquake. Which was kinda cool– as long as no one you know was seriously hurt.
