It all started when I was five and we were living in Orlando. My neighbor’s cat had kittens and they offered me one, so I ran home squealing and skipping, determined to convince my mom and dad to let me have one. And then my mom broke the news: we couldn’t have a cat because she and dad were *DUN DUN DUN* allergic. I was devastated and remember telling my mom “I’ll pray to Jesus that you and Daddy become unallergic.”
When I was 10, I got a hamster. Everything was fine and dandy until we realized that my little brother’s asthma symptoms were directly linked to the hamster (REALLY?), so we had to give her away. Again- devastated.
And then I married a man who is not allergic to dogs. And then we moved into a larger apartment that could accommodate a dog. And then my friend Nikki posted on the ever-loving Facebook that they still had five puppies in need of good homes, and I made the mistake of looking at the photos she posted. So I sent a photo to Matt on a whim, we talked and prayed about it, and 36 hours later we decided to take the plunge.
So while I was in Radford for a girls’ getaway this past weekend, Nikki and I arranged to meet up so that I could take this adorable ball of brown fur home with me.
Everyone? Meet Lily :).
I think this was when I caught her trying to hide behind her travel crate.
She’s already tired of me taking her photo! And yes, my husband is wearing a TMNT shirt. I bought it for him for Christmas. (MAJOR WIFE POINTS)

It’s been less than 24 hours and Matt and I are already smitten with her. She’s soft, cuddly and utterly adorable, and I’m beginning to wonder how I made it so many years without a dog.
And in case you were wondering, yes, we did name her after a character from Harry Potter. Are you surprised evenย in the slightest?
