Perhaps the thing I looked forward to the most when Matt and I visted The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in December was tasting Butterbeer. Everyone I know that had already been there raved about, and JK Rowling did such an incredible job of describing it in the books that I’ve been jonesing for a frosty glass of the stuff for well over a year before I finally tried it.

True to Potter form, it was better than I imagined. Rich, sweet, and perfectly chilled, I was smitten. But since I live approximately 856 miles from Orlando, I can’t exactly pop over to the Three Broomsticks whenever I have a craving, so I started looking for recipes online. They were all really complicated (and since I’m a disaster in the kithcen, complicated = I won’t make it) but then my good friend and fellow Potterhead Bree provided me with a simple solution.

My friends, I bring you (well, Bree brings you) the world’s most simple Butterbeer recipe ever! You need:

  • One 12 oz. bottle of cream soda
  • Two to three tablespoons of butterscotch shnapps (it has alcohol in it- aka this is an adult recipe)
  • whipped cream

Empty the entire bottle of cream soda into a glass, add the two-three tablespoons of butterscotch shnapps, stir, then top with whipped cream.

Et voila! A delicious refreshment and simple escape into Hogsmeade. See how excited I am about it??

Do you remember the first time we tasted butterbeer? At the opening of the last HP movie that we got there hours beforehand to get seats. I commented that it tasted like cream soda with some butterscotch flavoring added! I’d still like to know how they made them have a cold gaseous streaming out of them. Is there a way to replicate that? Did the Orlando one have that in their butterbeer? Great post.
