It started in elementary school as a childhood friendship- he was always there, always sweet. After a stint of dating in high school though, they went their separate ways, never expecting to see one another again. But then one night in college, she at Radford and he at UVA, she needed to see him. In a moment of complete abandon, after years of no communication, she got in her car and drove to Charlottesville. She had no idea how she’d be received, if he’d even want to see her, but she drove anyways. And as she stepped out of her car, seeing him for the first time in who knew how long, she just knew. “It was at first sight.” There was no doubt this time- this was it.

Katie and I have known each other since sophomore year at Radford and I remember listening rapturously as she’d tell me about her Daniel, so when she asked me if I’d photograph their wedding it was an absolute “YES!!” I couldn’t imagine working with a sweeter couple, and their wedding day was such a dream. Daniel and Katie, thank you a hundred times over for the sheer joy of photographing your love! My heart was absolutely bursting with joy on your day and I count myself as truly blessed to have been the one you chose to preserve your memories.

Their entire perfect day took place at the Historic Jordan Springs

Katie’s sister Allie is an incredible hair and make-up artist, so she attended to Katie for the morning. Allie, you did an amazing job!

Daniel & Katie opted to do a first look- YES!! First looks are the bee’s knees- you have ample time for relaxed, gorgeous portraits, you don’t have to sweat about making everyone wait for your reception arrival, and most importantly, that moment where you first see each other? It’s YOURS. You don’t have to share it with 150+ people- just you, your almost-husband or -wife, and your photographer in the distance.

I love the rose monogram they used through all of their paper products- it really helped to tie things together!

I was SO excited when Daniel’s groomsman Charles had them play the shoe game! My friend Rebekah wrote all about this game so the fact that one of my couples was actually playing got me really jazzed. The crowd loved it, too!

One thing I left the wedding knowing was that Daniel and Katie are LOVED by their friends and family. I’ve never seen a group of people so happy to see a couple united in marriage.

Love Everlasting- Daniel & Katie’s Historic Jordan Springs wedding

June 12, 2012

  1. Rebekah Hoyt says:

Abby, this is one of your best. Elegant, classic, and so beautiful. I especially LOVE the post-ceremony portraits – that light is amazing. Oh my gosh and I took one look at that sparkler bucket and KNEW they’d be the kind that create crazy smoke! I bought those and tested them pre-wedding and they were so smokey! I had one wedding where they used them – same thing. You were able to pull an amazing getaway shot out despite the crazy smoke – great job! 🙂

  2. Jean Hensley says:

Beautiful couple, beautiful setting. Gorgeous photos! Great job, Abby!

  11. ABBY!!! GAH. These are so fabulously stunning. I knew you were going to rock it out. Such an honor to have been able to join on & although I was there to see it, it’s so fun to see the day thru your eyes. (and that candy bar was the best ever)

  12. Nicolette says:

I’ve been looking forward to see these. They are great!!

  13. Sydney Blanchard says:

This sounds totally self-centered, but this blog post has seriously answered some prayers I was praying for God’s help in getting my own wedding planning biplane off the ground. I received a lot of helpful inspiration from your blog and their creativity and style. THANKS for sharing, and THANKS for doing an utterly breathtaking job with your photography!

  14. Karen Field says:

Beautiful shots! Terrific setting. I loved the last shot in black and white. Was that film? It seemed to encapsulate the whole event, the joyfulness of it. Great job on giving this couple beautiful photos to remember all their days.

  15. Elizabeth says:

ABBY!!!! These might be some of your best yet!! Of course, I’m no professional… but I just loved these. They were all so gorgeous, but something about them felt different than the norm wedding photos. The poses, the lighting, the facial expressions, the FEELING you captured, it was all just lovely. The first look shots are GEMS! Also, the very last one, too, I think. Girl, your just getting better and better. God such is blessing you with overflowing talent 🙂

  16. Kat Marcum says:

Abby- these images are SO beautiful! Seriously, some of the best yet! Can not wait to see what else you cook up! Blessings over your new full time photography career!

  17. Nancy Hulver says:

As a grandmother, I may be slightly prejudiced but I think your photographs are expressive of a beautiful couple, beautiful wedding, beautiful setting. Your skill and artistry are abundantly present in every photograph. How is one supposed to pick a favorite

  18. Pam Reichert says:

You have captured the love shared on Katie and Daniel’s special day. It was a beautiful day , a gorgeous setting and a perfect couple. Now we can re-live these memories forever. Thank you!!

  19. Eric Campbell says:

As Father of the Bride, my bias on the subject of this shoot is obvious…. such a wonderful and beautiful day [U2, Katie! 🙂 ] and event for us all! Abby – being around you that day was such a joy! You were efficient, professional, patient – and maybe even more importantly – ebullient, engaged and just plain fun! Sarah’s touch was felt too, and you made a fine duo. The beauty of your work here, your eye in both production and the studio afterwards and your natural artistic grace make me eager for more!!! Thank you for being a part of our family’s day and for recording it so elegantly!

  20. Peggy Thornton says:

  31. Theresa Hulver Seddon says:

Abby, you did such a fabulous job capturing the joy and radiance that abounded throughout Katie and Daniel’s wedding celebration. Even though it was quite simple to tell that you are an extraordinary photographer and a professional through and through,it was so comforting for Katie to have a friend there to document her special day. You made it easy for her to relax and let her classic beauty shine. I can’t wait to see the rest of the pictures. I just don’t know how I will ever be able to choose my favorites.
