You know what’s crazy-but-not-really? I no longer dread Mondays. I used to shoot all weekend, living the life of a full-time photographer, and then come Sunday night I’d fall to pieces. But these days I have absolutely no qualms with Mondays anymore! I actually kind of look forward to it- it means the start of a new week, and it means I get to dig into to all the photos I shot over the weekend. Am I crazy? Please tell me I’m not the only one who enjoys Mondays…?

Lessons learned from the weekend!

  • Acquiring a puppy increases the number of bruises one has on their body at any given time. I have SIX bruises and I’m 97% sure they’re from chasing Lily under the couch to retrieve yet another thing she’s stolen.
  • Green tea is my new Tylenol. Seriously- any time I get a headache, I brew a cup of jasmine and my head feels better within the half hour.
  • Photographers! You NEED to check for ticks after shooting in tall grass/wooded areas! I found one on me yesterday after shooting on Saturday morning, despite the fact that I was wearing long pants.
  • I took immense pleasure in charring that tick with a lighter. (I’m not creepy- it’s one of the few fail-safe ways to kill them)
  • A third point about ticks- don’t Google search them OR tick bites. It’ll make your skin crawl.
  • I’m fairly certain General Mills is jipping us- my Lucky Charms box this morning had suspiciously fewer charms than I’m used to. I smell a conspiracy.
  • Having an actual light meter (as opposed to the little dial within your camera) makes me a feel a HECK of a lot better about shooting film. The iPhone Light Meter app just wasn’t cutting it!

And because every blog post is better with some eye candy, here you go! Another couple of images from the Justin & Mary Walk Through A Wedding!

  2. Jean Hensley says:

Good Monday morning to you! Ihate ticks! I don’t hate Mondays, either. I’ll have to try the tea! Love you.

  3. freakin’ ticks are SO GROSS. can’t wait to see more from the “Walk Through a Wedding” shoot!

  4. I agree totally. Can’t wait for Mondays. And glad to see that you concur, Lucky Charms are for grownups too 🙂

  5. Kari Jeanne says:

I HAD A TICK ON ME TOO THIS WEEKEND!!!!!! I may or may not have lost my cool just a bit when I found – which was thankfully sooner than later!! The photo’s that resulted were worth it though 😉

  6. Karen Field says:

Besides hating ticks and becoming paranoid about them, they are very likely to be dangerous. I’m Abby’s mother and I’m currently struggling with a 15 month Lyme disease treatment because of a tick bite several years ago. Please, if you see that you’ve been bitten by a tick, if you know where the tick is, find a plastic bag to put it in and take it to the dr. If you miss it and you find that you have a bull’s eye at the tick sight, get to the dr ASAP. Caught early with antibiotic treatment you can avoid what I’m going through. Preventively, spray yourself all over with DEET. Where a hat, socks, long sleeves and pants, and tell your couple that you’re just being careful. Lyme Disease will kill your business if you ignore it. It can also kill you.

    Happy Monday!

burning the tick? like, off your skin? i don’t wanna search it because i’ve searched a few other things (like fleas…sarcoptic mange…the good stuff you search when you get a puppy…) and i spent every other minute thinking i was going to contract some mythical diseases from my dog after walking him. (we’re both fine, for the record.) thankfully, the worst bites i’ve gotten while shooting are mosquitos…..
ps: general mills is totally ripping you off. had lucky charms the other day and had like…5 charms in one bowl. we need to start a petition.
