I LOVE albums. I really really do. It’s why I lug my 47lb collection of albums to all of my meetings with potential clients- I want them to see and feel how a bound book of wedding memories looks. The way I explain it to my brides and grooms is that it’s the perfect way to wrap your wedding into one pretty finished product- otherwise whenever family and friends come over and ask to see your photos, you’ll have to sit them in front of a computer and tell them to have fun clicking through all 700-something images. Plus, with the speed that technology changes, how long will it be before that DVD or flash drive is outdated? (I’m HOPING everyone archives their images somewhere more secure, but you can’t be sure :/).  Albums are a sort of insurance policy against changing technology- people will always be able to turn the pages of a book, whereas your computer may not always have a disk drive or a USB port.

My first wedding album I ever designed took me TEN HOURS to complete. Holy cow, that’s embarrassing. I attended Katelyn James‘ workshop a few weeks later and turned beet red when she told us she can knock out several albums in a single morning, and I knew something had to change. I love the look and feel of albums, but I couldn’t afford to spend an entire work day (and then some) designing one. And THEN Katelyn announced she had partnered up with a few other wedding photographers to offer Templates For Photographers, a set of album templates that work with PhotoJunction, making album design as easy as drag and drop. I’m actually able to look forward to album design now! Photogs, if you dread album design and haven’t checked out T4P yet, do it! It’s so worth the investment!

Just a few sample spreads that I created using T4p. I can’t wait to order my next sample album!

  1. Rebekah Hoyt says:

I LOVE your spreads! The style is so consistent and shows your work off beautifully!

  2. Of course, being a designer, this post makes me warm and fuzzy. A tip from my magazine design days…. try to keep faces out of the gutter. I’m sure as a photographer, you’re keenly aware of this, but thought I’d pass it on! I see that a lot when looking at friends wedding albums!

  3. Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! Can I ask which album companies you use?

  4. Lorene G says:

    Love your designs Abby!

  5. I tried PhotoJunction and just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I’m coming from InDesign though, so that may have been it 😉
LOVE the spread with the blue sofa!!

  6. I JUST got T4P and I’m so glad I did because I am working on my first album design EVER right now and it makes things SO much easier!! I’m lovin the blue sofa spread and the last one!! 🙂
