Welp, it’s official- my wedding season is over! Jarrod & Abby’s wedding this past Saturday marked the end of my busy 2012 season, and while it’s been an absolute trip, I’m excited for a little bit of down time. I have a few amazing weddings this winter that I can’t wait for(!), but I know that having the time to rest and recharge is going to make me even more excited for my couples. The off-season is such a great time to focus on areas that may have been weaknesses, to map out your next year’s calendar, and to brainstorm ways to improve your client experience. It’s also the time when you get to do allll those things you’d been wanting to do from April-November, but couldn’t find the time for :). The down time after my 2011 season led to some really healthy changes for me, so I can’t wait to get cranking again on everything! First up? Album designs. YESSS!

As always, things that happened over the past week:

  • In case any of my couples are thinking about having chocolate-covered Belgian waffles as wedding favors? You should totally do it. Jarrod and Abby had them on Saturday night and at the insistence of Abby’s mom, I took one home. Oh my word; AMAZING.
  • I need to pay more attention when packaging up my film for the mail- I was POSITIVE I’d sent off the rolls from Anna’s bridal session two weeks ago, but when I looked in our fridge last week I found 4 rolls marked “Anna” sitting in the butter shelf. I still have no idea which rolls I sent off instead of Anna’s. Guess I’ll find out whenever my scans come in!
  • Does anyone else ever wonder how things like coffee and chocolate were discovered? What compelled our ancestors to look at a red coffee berry, break it open, taste the terrible coffee bean, decide to roast it, then to grind it and boil it in water, then once that tasted awful to add cream and sugar? Really, things like that astound me.
  • My tires were bordering on dangerously bald- I’m still not sure how they passed inspection. So when I took my car to our mechanic last week to check the engine, I asked him to go ahead and order me some tires. Too bad I didn’t realize I’d bought the sport edition of the Mazda 3, so my 17-inch alloy wheels required I spend $900 on new tires. Oh well, at least I can drag race now.
  • Photographer nightmares are ridiculous- last night I dreamt that Katie and Shawn were entering their reception with a synchronized swimming routine involving their entire bridal party, and I couldn’t get my light stand up and functional in time to capture it. I need to stop consuming sugar before bedtime.

And look! More previews from this weekend!

Happy Monday!

I wonder those things about eggs. really? they come out of a hen’s butt, and their first thought was – let’s eat it!

  2. Abbey says:

$900 for tires, yikes!!!! I’m in the midst of buying new tires right now and am not happy about the money I have to spend. However, rather be safe than sorry!!! 🙂

  3. Beth says:

Your nightmare made me laugh out loud. Hilarious.

  4. Dani says:

I heart Monday Mash-Up’s!! And I can’t wait to see more from these two awesome sneak peeks!

  5. Jean says:

Beautiful photos, as usual. So glad you are getting new tires!

  6. Sarah B. says:

Abby! I totally wonder ALL the time how people came up with things – coffee and chocolate being some. BUT also – who came up with CAKE? Who thought it would be a good idea to throw eggs and flour and sugar and stuff into a bowl and then bake it?! I don’t know – but I am glad they did! 🙂

  7. Lena says:

You absolutely crack me up! Lesson learned, the sport edition of a car only means more money, my tires were right around the same and that definitely sucked!! And, Brent and I are totally planning a synchronized dance routine so, be sure to practice that lighting lol 😉

  8. Brittani says:

Hahaha Abby you are one of the funniest people EVER! The bullets about the coffee, the tires, and the nightmares (know those wayyyyy too well) had me laughing out loud!

  9. LOVE those sneak peeks, abby!!! you are getting better and better with every shoot you do. seriously. congrats on the end to wedding season!
