A couple of months ago I had a major breakthrough- I was finally able to push past the pretense of the style I thought I was supposed to have and embrace the style I actually love. Part of that breakthrough was realizing that my love of all things classic (Coca Cola in glass bottles, black dress & pearls, etc.) has been fighting to manifest itself throughout my work. I worked really hard to try to stick with the current fads and poses when it came to my photography, but once I was finally able to embrace that I’m an Audrey Hepburn at heart, there were several aspects of my work that just CLICKED.

This image of Lauren was one of my favorites before I knew why. Initially I thought it was just because it’s a beautiful image of an especially radiant bride, but I know better now. It’s become one of my top five images because it’s a classic- it’s timeless, elegant and everlasting. I will never tire of this image, and I know that Lauren’s parents (the recipient of this canvas) will love it for years and years to come.

Lauren's bridal portrait on canvas- Abby Grace Photography

I’ve been asked before what my favorite part of a wedding day is, and my answer has always been “the period before the wedding when the bride is getting ready.” But I think I can narrow it down to something even more specific- that five minutes I take with my brides before we head out for the first look, a few uninterrupted moments for a classic bridal portrait. THAT is my favorite part of a wedding day. Followed *very* closely by bride & groom portraits :).

Happy Friday!

An unadulterated love of classics

A good part of the reason I’m so hooked on your photography is because you have that classic style. The portraits you do are ones that could hang on the wall of a 1950’s house or a brand new home now. Love it!

  5. Lauren Beggs says:

Abby, I can’t wait for my parents to receive this! I always enjoy reading your blogs and seeing all the beautiful moments your capture. You ROCK!

  6. I agree! You’re totally owning this style and making it yours. Too many people follow the fads – whatever happened to uniqueness? GORGEOUS image, Abby (as always!). 🙂
