I’ve never really been one to embrace change readily- change usually means struggle, and call me crazy, but I don’t like struggling. PASS, the system I use to deliver digital negatives to my clients, first made its debut in 2011, but being the headstrong individual that I was, I first just shrugged it off. My DVDs were getting me by just fine, thank you very much. Well, that’s actually a lie- DVDs were killing my soul, slivers at a time- they took forever to burn, forever to package, and it took me fo-EVAH to get to the post office.

Cue: PASS! I finally decided to give it a try last fall and uploading my images to PASS has quickly become one of my favorite parts of my workflow. With the new updates, the galleries themselves are BEAUTIFUL. So much more of an attractive to way to display my gorgeous brides and handsome grooms than a DVD could ever do. PASS makes it faster for my clients to receive their images- as soon as I’ve uploaded an event, the images are available for viewing, download, and sharing with friends and family. Again, not really something a DVD could ever do without inviting all 150 of your wedding guests over for a viewing party.

But there was still one small thing that felt like PASS was missing- the ability to provide my clients with gorgeous, high-quality prints so that my brides and grooms weren’t having to take their images to (*shudder*) Wal-Mart. The gurus at PASS listened to what we were asking for, and as of this past weekend, I’m SO stoked that my brides and grooms will now be able to order professional lab prints directly within their galleries! Part of the mentality behind PASS is simplifying lives, and because I want it to be EASY for my couples and their families to fill their homes with prints, top-of-the-industry prints are available through PASS at low prices. How low, you ask? This low: 4×6’s- $1.00, 5×7’s- $2.00, and 8×10’s- $4.00. See?! Isn’t that easy?

And the process is simple as well! Here’s an example using William & Meg’s PASS gallery.

The gallery itself before any prints have been ordered- isn’t it pretty?

To start off, simply select the thumbnail of whichever images you want to order, then click on the icon of a photo at the bottom of the right hand menu.

Choose however many copies of each size you’d like to order…

…and when you click “view cart” it shows only the images you’re ordering, along with the size and quantity of prints. I’ve worked with several image ordering systems before, and this is by FAR the easiest one I’ve ever used.

If you click back over to the gallery as a whole, it denotes which images are already being ordered as prints, so you’re not constantly clicking back over to your shopping cart.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. I believe in prints and I want all of my couples to have their wedding images displayed around their home for years and years to come. Making it easier on them is one of the best ways I can make that happen, so when their children and grandchildren ask to see wedding photos years and year from now, they’re not pulling out this ancient thing called a “dee-vee-dee.”

Happy Wednesday, friends!

And yet another reason why I love PASS- prints!!

Loved this post & went to check out PASS. As a photographer starting my business, I love that most of it is free! I couldn’t believe that! I do have a question for you…Do you charge any extra to your clients for this online gallery, if you don’t mind me asking? I know most photographers make a lot of their money by selling their images as prints or on a DVD. I just worry that if my clients will upload these images to Facebook or print them through PASS at the great cost, will I lose out on my business? Thank you!!

Hey Morgan! I don’t charge my clients anything extra- the high-resolution files are included in every wedding, engagement and portrait session that I shoot. I’m what you’d call a “shoot & share” photographer- I believe in giving my clients the high-res files off the bat, because that’s what I want when I hire a photographer. Because I charge more up front, I don’t rely on print or file sales. It’s a totally different business model than the “charge a sitting fee, then charge a LOT for files and prints,” but it’s what works for me and I honestly think it’s where the industry is headed in the next few years :).

  6. Eryn Kesler says:

Thanks for sharing your review and an awesome how to for your clients…you continue to inspire me, girl!

  7. Jean says:

Sounds like it’s a lot more convenient and easy! Good work, Abby!

I have a quick question!! I read this and thought you might be able to answer!! PASS sounds amazing and I want to use it so bad!! I am just starting out here and trying to get started right. (Meaning I want to make the right decisions and choose the best options from the get-go! I am obviously going to make mistakes, but I don’t want to change everything in two-five years.) so my question is….are the prints very, very professional? I can’t seem to find a site that allows me to have private galleries with each client and have amazing printing quality. PASS seems to be the best option so far and if their printing is great quality, I’m going to go with it!
Sorry for my book… I’m young (still in highschool!) and don’t know many people in the photography industry. At least in the area I want to be in. I haven’t commented much before but I’m a regular reader! (I check you, KJ, and J* first thing every morning!) I’m just starting out… Still getting my blog designed, and business aspects straightened out. Thank you for this post… It honestly answered a lot of questions I had about pass 🙂

  9. Morgan Leigh says:

Abby, thank you so much for your advice! I used PASS for the first time this past week for an engaged couple. Once I got it up I was OBSESSED with looking at it! I thought the entire thing looked so gorgeous and professional! My couple also loved it! I thought I would just try it out for a while, but I already love it. I also think you’re right in that THIS is the future of the photography industry!!! Thank you so much again!

do you happen to know which lab PASS is using for their prints?

  11. […] one day, I read this blog post Abby Springman of Abby Grace Photography wrote about a thing called PASS. I enjoyed following her […]

  12. Chandra says:

Hi Abby! Loved loved loved this post 🙂 I am sooo excited to use Pass! I have been using SmugMug & it’s just so-so. I have a quick question – so do you not send your clients anything with their images? No USB or disc anymore? I have a REALLY hard time getting to the Post Office as well! Love your photos & blog! xo!

  13. Wendy says:

You didn’t mention how GREAT the prints are! I compared the color quality and trueness to other prints of our engagement session and the PASS prints were better. The professional printing lab prints were too warm and the skin tones were off a bit. Thanks Abby and PASS! I was able to order prints for loved ones while on vacation.

  14. […] 5. PASS- you guys already know I have a crush on this one. PASS has made it almost stupidly easy for me to get images to my clients. Rather than having to make a trip to the post office every time I finished a wedding, engagement or anniversary, and rather than having my clients wait the few days it takes to get a USB drive or DVD delivered, I can now send my couples their images as soon as they’ve finished uploading. This means I’m able to offer same-day delivery for photographs: the day I finish editing, I begin the upload, and once that upload completes, my couples have their images in hand. PASS has been amazing for simplifying, and has honestly become a point of marketing for me! (Read more HERE and HERE). […]

  15. […] bring me to PASS! I’ve already written about my crush on this software/app here & here, and today we’re back again with one of their newer updates! PASS recently started […]
