I will never understand Virginia weather. It was 75 and sunny on Friday and Saturday, but this morning’s engagement session was a frigid 35 and cloudy. Don’t get me wrong- I’m not begrudging Mother Nature her right to a chilly fall/winter, but dang. Can a girl get some consistency around here? These wild swings in temperature are going to drive me crazy! Also, question for you guys: am I think only one who thinks that turning on the heat in your car/home for the first time each year makes it smell like Christmas?

Last week was a whirlwind! I photographed a couple I absolutely LOVE on Tuesday, and then shot a session on Wednesday that my heart had been dreaming of for a long time now. And the wait to share both of those sessions has been killing me, but not for much longer! They’ll both be on the blog this week! Matt & I didn’t end up throwing a Halloween costume party like we’d wanted to (blame it on wedding season fatigue), but I made a costume anyways (see it HERE) and we had a blast handing out candy to the adorable kids that came to our door. And then Saturday’s wedding in Annapolis was so, SO sweet. I wish you all could meet Kam & Erin- two of the most genuine people I’ve ever had the honor of photographing.

As always, lessons learned/things that transpired over the last week:

  • I’m accustomed to military guys saying strange things after having two brothers in the service, but I think the groomsmen at Saturday’s wedding took the cake. As we were walking from the Naval Academy to the boat we were taking to the reception, I heard the following sentiment: “The key to leadership is big biceps.” I have to admit, I’ve never heard that one before.
  • I’ve finally figured out the trick when it comes to NOT getting kicked out of a Smithsonian museum: a) smile a lot at any security personnel as the pass by, and 2) avoid looking guilty or shifty. Piece o’ cake.
  • Pink Champagne Cupcakes sound really good in theory, but in reality? Not that great. I baked two batches yesterday for a couple of meetings we had for church last night and I hate to admit it, but I wasn’t that impressed. For a made-from-scratch cupcake, it tasted surprisingly generic. Sooo if anyone has a better recipe, lemme know!
  • Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the ballet Giselle at the Kennedy Center with my new friend Annie (it was AMAZING!). After watching the talented Washington Ballet I almost cried, and managed to convince myself that I missed my calling as a professional ballerina, even though I was never a standout dancer in the first place. Whatever, in my head I’m a regular Anna Pavlova.

Somehow I managed to completely forget to post a preview of Tim & Cristina’s engagement session- ah! Here’s a peek at one of the most awesome couples ever, coming to the blog this week :).

And here’s a preview from Kam & Erin’s wedding on Saturday. You guys know how much I love military weddings!

Happy Monday!
