Of all the times I’ve had the joy of hearing Mary Marantz speak, there’s one particular notion that replays over and over in my mind- “we wait on a permission that’s never going to come.” By that, she meant that we often hold ourselves back from taking risks and trying new things because no one’s told us we should, no one’s INVITED us to do it. We end up missing out on what could be our greatest adventures because we’re waiting for someone to give us that push. And while Mary spoke, her words rang throughout my heart and brain- this was ME she was talking about.

Being a small business owner means I have to be my own cheerleader, PR agent, CEO, etc; it’s my responsibility to get things moving in my business. One of the most encouraging things Mary said during the DC stop of the What’s Next tour was that the entire tour was of their own creation. It was an idea that hit them, that they pursued, that they turned into a reality. It wasn’t as though they reached a certain point of success and then received a phone call saying “Congratulations, you’ve made it! Now you’re qualified to take the ShowIt tour bus on a cross country tour!” If they’d waited for a moment like that in order to pursue the tour, they’d be waiting a long time.

Well friends, this is us refusing to wait for permission :). My sweet friend Rebekah and I are hosting a night of Q&A/discussion for photographers! One of my favorite things about the photography community I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of is how freely everyone shares with each other, and Rebekah and I want the chance to pour into others in the same way others have poured into us.

Rebekah Hoyt & Abby Grace Photography

A Night with Rebekah & Abby will take place on March 8th at 7 p.m. in Reston, VA and will be two hours of relaxed photography chat, open sharing, wine, & nibbles. We can’t WAIT! We’ll have 12 slots open to whoever wants to come, so in order to secure your spot, go ahead and shoot me an email: abby@abbygracephotography.com. Seats are FREE but due to the limited number of spots (my living room can only hold so many), we do ask that you’re SURE you’ll be able to attend before signing up, just so we don’t have to turn away other photographers for a vacant seat.

Friends, we are SO excited to get together with you all and share, share, share. Rebekah and I have learned so much from each other over the past year of our friendship and her heart is made of pure gold. You guys will be in GREAT hands :). Go read Rebekah’s post today- you’ll see what I mean about her sweet heart!

Happy Wednesday!

** UPDATE**- You guys have totally blown our socks off. We filled all 12 spots (plus an extra one!) in less than an hour! Because of how quickly it filled up, we’re already looking to plan another one. We’ll keep you posted!
