I first met Sarah at the Q&A night back in March, and I could tell just from those first couple hours that she was something special. Adorable, hilarious and a bit of a firecracker, I remember liking her right away. So imagine my delight when her boyfriend Joe e-mailed me a few weeks ago to explain that he was planning to propose and he knew Sarah followed my work, so he was hoping to have the proposal photographed? It was one of those “clapping your hands and dancing around the office” kind of gleeful moments.

Joe & I exchanged a series of emails, complete with outfit advice and a PowerPoint presentation denoting exactly where on the rooftop terrace of the Kennedy Center Joe would propose. They had tickets to see the Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker that night, so his ruse for getting her there three hours before the opening strands of Tchaikovsky’s suite (in time for Golden Hour!) was the promise of dinner at the rooftop restaurant. Matt & I posed as two tourists, simply taking in the view of DC, meanwhile keeping a hawk’s eye watch out for Joe & Sarah to make their exit out onto the terrace. And then it all unfolded oh so sweetly…

Congratulations and the BEST of wishes, Joe & Sarah! It was such an honor to be the one to capture such an incredible moment in your lives!

These pictures are beautiful! I guess it’s easy when you have such amazing subject matter! I have known Sarah since she was a little bitty girl and to see her in this moment, in these pictures, make my heart melt.

She so deserves this happiness and if her Joe is anything like her, they will have the world at their feet!

    Congratulations…AGAIN! Love you!
