Have you ever been surfing around Facebook [read: creeping] and see that someone from high school is engaged that you didn’t know about? That’s exactly how I “ran” into Mason and Angela again. We all attended James Madison High School and we were all in the marching band (PRIDE OF VIENNA!). They’ve been together since their junior year of high school (I love stories like theirs!), and survived a grueling four years away from each at separate colleges.

One day while poking around my newsfeed, I saw that Angela had updated her status to say “We still haven’t found a photographer- does anyone know a good one?” I was confused because I didn’t even know Angela and Mason were still together, much less in a situation where they were in need of a photographer. SO, I hopped on over to Angela’s profile, and much to my delight, she and Mason were declared engaged by the almighty Facebook!

I quickly responded on her status that I’m a photographer and invited her and Mason to take a look at my work. I was so excited when they chose me for their wedding day, and even more excited when they elected to do an engagement session! E-sessions are so important- they allow you the chance to get to know your photographer before the wedding, and you get the chance to relax a bit in front of the camera if you’re shutter-shy.

I didn’t know Mason and Angela too well in high school, but I know know that they love to laugh more than any other couple I’ve worked with. Seriously. All smiles! Angela has these gorgeous honey-colored eyes that photograph amazingly, and Mason always knows how to make Angela shine. Together, they were a complete joy to shoot.

We took the Metro into DC this morning.

This would be creepy if I wasn’t a photographer. Fortunately, I am, thus it is adorable.

After a short detour on the Metro [read: we missed our stop and had to backtrack], we ended up at the Botanic Gardens in DC. None of us had ever been before, so it was new terrain for all of us.

Seriously, Angela- you’re gorgeous!

This is Mason’s model face. Work it, Mason.

Mason made some sort of comment to Angela before I took this next photo that I was going to have to get down pretty low to crop out the people in the background. When he turned back to look at the camera, I was already lying on the ground. This was totally worth it!

Mason and Angela- I had so much fun with you both today! Thanks for allowing me into your lives for a few hours this morning. You all were a joy to shoot, and I can’t wait for your wedding in August!

They’re all beautiful! The one with the tulips in front of the Capitol is a fav but I also like a couple of the ones in what I assume was a Starbucks. Great shots. You are so talented, and that’s not just your mother talking.

  3. Abby, I love how you reach through your lens to pull out the inner beauty in all of your subjects. Angela has the most amazing inner glow that radiates out of her beautiful smile. And Mason just looks dumbstruck at this gorgeous woman saying yes… you *abby* really captured the excitement and joy of engagement.
