I won’t lie- I’m totes jealous of those husband-wife photography teams. I wish I got to work side-by-side with Matt! That’s like… my dream job on steroids. But the legal kind. (is there a legal kind of steroid?)

So my mission for the past few months has been to get Matt to go out shooting with me so he realizes his hidden passion and talent for photography and can become my partner in crime on an 8-5 basis. And then my friend Rebekah had her husband take a few photos of her, and I decided we should start “The Husband Challenge-” get your husband/significant other (if they’re not a photographer) to take a few headshots for you and see how they turn out!

Our first tutoring session was on Saturday and I’m glad to say it went swimmingly! Granted, I did program all of the settings, but he was focusing + recomposing LIKE A BOSS. Next up? Shutter speed and aperture. But we’ll save that for next time :).

See? Two benefits- Matt and I can work together AND I get new headshots whenever I outgrow my old one. Match made in heaven!

Happy Tuesday!

Mission: turn Matt into a photographer

February 28, 2012

  1. He has a good eye for taking the pictures and I feel like that is half the battle. Even if you could program the settings correctly, if you took uninteresting photos then it wouldn’t work at all. Good luck with your teaching sessions:-)

  2. The heck?! My husband and I shoot together and I can’t get him to take headshots of me! Must change this…

  3. umm… the one of you in the swing is FREAKIN ADORABLE. also: i’ve secretly been encouraging will (the guy i’m dating/have been dating for a while) to try and shoot in manual so one day we can tag team it too 😉

  4. Andrea says:

These pics look amazing. I mean…I’m no photographer but they look great to me. Hopefully, I’m helping your case to get “your dream job on steroids”. 😉

  5. Clarisse says:

    Pretty Abby 🙂

  6. I have faith in you. I know you can convert him. If my hubby can convert me you can convert him. 🙂

  7. I agree! Let’s get all hubs on board. That would be so fun. Cute shots BTW.

  8. Mia Bjerring says:

Matt is really good! These are great pictures of you Abby! You’re so gorgeous! 🙂

  9. This is so cute! My husband is learning to take pictures a little bit too but he’s also taking over all the business aspects of my business. It’s so nice to have help and I love working with him!

  10. jamie says:

I love working with my husband. . .i did his books for the last four years and now trying to convince him that he could help me by shooting with me. It is a dream too!

  11. Suzanne says:

If only Jacob wasn’t so insanely bad at taking photos. I can’t seem to understand the focus points on the camera. He’s always focusing on something in the background, and I’m a big fat blur in the foreground. I think even our two year old knows Daddy doesn’t use cameras. It’s “Mommy you take a picture.” lol. And you look suuuuuper cute in these by the way. LOVE that blazer!

  12. Keep working on him Abby! I’ve been working on David and he will actually change up his settings now without asking me questions. He has come a long way from the first wedding I ever did that he helped at and when we went from the church to outdoors he came up to me and said fix it bc I had it set for low light! hahaha!

  13. ABBS! i LOVE the one of you on the swing. AND i 100% know what you mean about wanting to work with your husband. I say that to Andy … ohhhhh I don’t know … like DAILY.

  14. Lauren Jolly says:

i totally use my boyfriend as my photographer since i can’t afford professional headshots right now. he’s actually a natural! so much fun to go shoot together, too!

  15. Jillian Tree says:

wife-and-husband team would so be my dream job too!! I always have to set the settings for him to take a pic of me as well…looks like your hubby did a great job with these! LOVE the swing one! <3

  16. Ashley Woolwine says:

Looks like Matt is learning from a pro 🙂 great job Matt!

  17. Ah cute pics!!! John is learning photography too:) He doesn’t have much time to work on it though (he works six days a week) so it’s a slow process. Hopefully since days will be longer soon, he will have more evening practice time!

  18. Jean Hensley says:

Very cute pics of you. Way to go Matt!! Love you two!

  19. Megan Roldan says:

LOVE this!! the pictures came out so good! good job Matt 🙂

  20. robyn says:

Awesome idea! My most “recent” head shots are from almost a year ago, and trying to do them myself can be annoying. I may have to drag hubby into the process! 😉

  21. Matt says:

To be fair, Abby set up all the shots, I only pressed the button. And she’s so beautiful, it would be impossible to take a bad picture.

  22. Rebekah Hoyt says:

ADORABLE! I love this! I need to post more of mine – you’ve inspired me! He did a wonderful job. YAY MATTS!!! 🙂

  23. I have no idea how I managed to not comment on this post? Abby, you are gorgeous and it’s awesome that Matt took these for you!<3
