Happy Monday, friends! It’s funny- December is usually one of my quiet months, business-wise, but these last few weeks have ended up being some of my craziest of the year. In a good way, of course! I just wasn’t expecting things to shake out this way. And so now, here we are, 11 days before Christmas, and I haven’t done ANY shopping. None. Nada. Zilch.

I should probably hop on that, shouldn’t I?

So Friday was my birthday, and it was the BEST! Matt woke me up with blueberry pancakes (my favorite!), we went out and bought our Christmas tree, I picked up some more film for my Polaroid camera (LOVE that thing), and then we went to Ted’s for dinner with friends. We’d contemplated spending my birthday in Manhattan, but seeing as Aaron & Shannon’s wedding in Virginia Beach was the next day, I thought that might be cutting it a little close :). There’s always next year! And I’m actually headed to Manhattan this afternoon to photograph the second half of Katherine Bignon’s bridal line, so woo!!

Friday was also our Gotcha Day with Sirius! And I’d been planning to write this morning about how far he’s come, how much more behaved he is today than when we first brought him home, yada yada. But then he acted like a TOTAL jerk during our walk this morning, so there you go.

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the past week!

  • I’m convinced my brother Ethan is one of the most interesting people in the country. He’s polished & professional, has great taste in fashion, speaks Arabic + bits and pieces of a dozen other languages, is well-rounded and cultured, has a bunch of tattoos, and loves hardcore rap music as well as bluegrass. Oh, and he had a custom Wu-Tang Clan bow tie made, which he wore to this past weekend’s wedding.
  • ^This explains why he’s such a hit with groomsmen.^
  • In case you’ve ever been in an Ikea, seen all of their lingonberry products, and wondered if they taste exactly like cranberries? The answer is yes, they do. We head breakfast at a Swedish place yesterday morning and my pancakes came with lingonberries, which tasted like cranberry sauce.
  • I know that an artificial Christmas tree is more cost-efficient, convenient, and clean, but the smell of a pine tree in our living room will always be enough to keep me buying a real one every year.
  • Matt & I are going to be on TV in Indonesia! We were out buying our tree at Krop’s Crops, where my family’s been going for more than 20 years, and there was a camera crew there filming an interest piece on American Christmas traditions to send back to Indonesia [a predominantly-Muslim country]. We’re pretty much international film stars.

One more preview from Saturday’s wedding- how gorgeous are these two?!
