Well hellllO there, Tuesday! You snuck up on me there, didn’t you? That’s the disconcerting thing about working the day after a holiday- I never remember I’ll have to work until I crawl into bed late at night on whatever holiday it is. Maybe because, as a kid, you got the days AROUND big holidays off as well- Christmas, New Year, July 4th, etc. But after taking an entire three day weekend off with the exception of one 45-minute period on Sunday afternoon, my inbox won’t let me take another day away. So back to work we go!

I’ve never been a big fireworks fan- not that I don’t like them, I’m just usually of the opinion that if you’ve seen one fireworks show, you’ve seen them all. But watching the show last night reminded me of the time in 2009 that Matt & I watched fireworks from the front porch of the house we all lived in on Summer Project in Hampton Beach, and then how we danced the jitterbug in the streets afterwards with a bunch of friends. We weren’t very good, but I think it was the first time he’d held me close. So I’ve decided that I like fireworks again :).

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the past week!

  • I had the absolute honor of speaking at the Honeybook* DC launch event last week! We’re somewhat new to the Honeybook family, but a tapas dinner + drinks at a DC speakeasy with Leslie & Martha was all I needed to feel like we’ve been around for ages.
  • And Martha managed to get me to try octopus for the first time. That was…interesting. The fact that I could still see the little suction cups on the octopus’ tentacles wasn’t appealing, and it was a bit too chewy for my taste.
  • Sometimes you make plans to start Whole30 on a Friday… and then your job brings you in contact with Ted’s Bulletin pop-tarts. So you admit defeat and resign yourself to starting anew the next day.
  • We’ve gotten hooked on Royal Pains on Netflix and for someone who gets super queasy at the mention of blood, I have to say- not my smartest choice (it’s a show about a concierge doctor in the Hamptons). Half of Matt’s enjoyment of the show comes from my reactions to unexpected medical gore/needles/etc.
  • It’s July and my two favorite fruits are peaches and nectarines. I AM IN SUMMER HEAVEN!

A quick preview from my most recent ballerina session with my gorgeous French ballerina, Sophie. The full shoot will be on the blog later this week!
