Well wouldja look at that? It’s Monday again! And I’m having a serious case of dejá vu. I’m sitting in City Lights Coffee in Charleston, SC typing up a blog post & newsletter, which is exactly how I spent another Monday back in March when I was here for our girls’ week!

We’ve been traveling a LOT this summer. Starting with Providence, RI & Nantucket, then Los Angeles & Santa Barbara, then Denver, and now Charleston. Well, our end destination is actually Kiawah Island, but you catch my drift. Lots of travel!

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the past week:

  • The new Harry Potter-ish book came out yesterday! We attended the midnight release at Barnes & Noble, and maybe it’s because I’m viewing things through the lens of nostalgia, but at the B&N in Tyson’s Corner? The kids just don’t have the same spirit and excitement we had when I was growing up. I came prepared for a ton of awesome costumes, and the most exciting things we saw were a few sets of Hogwarts robes. Lame, Tyson’s Corner kids. Lame.
  • On Friday night, I learned that when someone says something unkind about one of my dogs, I react poorly :). For example, Lily barks at passing dogs as we sit on the patio of a restaurant (which we’ll never do with her again), and the kid at the table next to us says, loud enough for me to hear, “Someone needs to put a muzzle on that thing.” HA.
  • Based on my reaction to said comment, I’d hate to see how I react one day when someone makes fun of my future kids.
  • I’ve started drinking protein shakes! This is super vain, but after seeing photos of myself (and my arms) from my weddings this last year, I’ve realized I have little to NO upper body strength. So I’ve been concentrating on weights a bit at the gym. And a friend recommended protein powder to help build muscle faster, and every time I drink one I tell Matt it’s because I’m trying to get swole. (That’s something athletes say, right?)
  • Goal for the end of the year: one unassisted pull-up. I’ve never done a pull-up in my life, and 2016 will be the year it finally happens.

Here’s a frame from my Yashica from the last time I was in Charleston, and coincidentally, the same place we’ll be lunching tomorrow!

And if you’ve already finished the new Harry Potter and the Cursed Child book, I’m dying to hear what you think! Matt & I finished it yesterday but I realize not everyone tears through books like that… so I’ll refrain from sharing anything for now to avoid any unwitting spoilers!

Monday Mash-Up

August 1, 2016

  1. Dixie says:

I tore through HP&TCC (I can do that, right?) yesterday, too! I’m a little scared to say this online, but it wasn’t all that I imagined. I don’t want to go in to too much detail just here, but I sure will talk about it in emails if that’s an option! ha.

Also, enjoy Charleston! It’s one of my favorite cities!

  2. Karen Field aka Mom says:

I’ve longed to go to Charleston for awhile and your photo just makes me want to to go there now, Have fun there and at Kiawah. You know, your Aunt Terry Lynn is there now former the week.

  3. I finished Harry Potter too!!! Read it in like half a day. My grandma use to say that I didn’t read books I swallowed them. Have to admit that I was slightly disappointed though. I feel awful for saying that but…

  4. Emilia Jane says:

Holy shit Abby that header image! WHAT A DREAM.
