Mondays are hard sometimes, y’all. Most of the time, I LOVE Mondays! Getting into the office to start in on the ideas that have been buzzing around my head for several days? It’s the best!

But today, I just sort of want to crawl back into bed and wait for Tuesday. It’s not that I’m having a bad day! It’s just that I really want to take the day off. But I have to start in on the ideas that have been buzzing around my head for several days :). Welcome to October in the life of a wedding industry professional!

I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the last week:

  • I don’t often state “I’m really good at ____,” but after shooting bridal party + bride & groom portraits at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, I can confidently state “I’m really good at getting tourists to refrain from walking through the background of my shot.”
  • All that’s required is a big smile and shouting “Thank you so much!” the moment they walk anywhere near where you’re shooting. Your passive-aggressive assumption that they’ll actually do what you’re presuming they’ll do confuses them into turning around. PSYCHOLOGY!
  • During my short jaunt to Boston this past week, I witnessed an actual person yelling in a library, and actual people shushing them. It felt like an episode of All That on Nickelodeon. This woman was SHOUTING into a phone in an attempt to coordinate meeting up with a friend, and no less than five people either shushed her. And a scandalized library worker attempted to get her to quiet down, but to no avail. Ahhhh Boston!
  • Also, the streets of Boston smell faintly like Vanilla Cream donuts from Dunkin. It’s glorious.
  • The Boston Library is a DREAM! After seeing my friend Kate’s Insta story from a wedding there a few weeks ago, I knew I wanted to see it in person. Well, it’s even more gorgeous in real life. Rows of perfectly-aligned wooden tables, colonial-era chairs, and green lamps (see above photo). It’s so dang symmetrical, and I’m dying to shoot a wedding there myself.
  • Actually, Boston itself is just a dream. I’d been twice before but never had time to explore on my own. After a few hours spent working in peace in the Library, I headed out in search of lunch. I stumbled upon Luke’s Lobster and had THE best lobster roll of my life, and decided right then and there that Matt & I will be returning together in the Spring. Because lobster. And libraries.

A sweet preview from Dan & Julie’s darling wedding on Saturday with Christie of Grit & Grace Inc.! I can’t wait for you to see more on Thursday!

  1. Jean says:

Love the photos. You are so good at directing folks and who could resist that smile you flash!

  2. Rebekah says:

I love Boston too. There is so much good food & wonderful historical stuff. I love all the different neighborhoods & how easy it is to get around the city with the public transit. If it weren’t so darn cold (& expensive) up there, I’d consider moving there.
