Bonjour, mes amis! I’m writing this from an airport in Paris, waiting to board the last leg of my trip today. I’m on my way to meet my business soulmate, Katherine Bignon, and her three littles in Ascain, France!

See, with Katherine living in New York and me near DC, our planning sessions for the Paris workshop in July have been limited to text and Skype. So when Katherine told me she was going to be in France for six weeks this winter and asked if I wanted to come along for a portion, it was a “WELL DUH” situation- not only do I love her dearly as a friend, but this is the perfect way to iron out some of those details you just can hash out over Skype! YAY!

As always, lessons learned/events that transpired over the past week:

• I’ve never really been able to sleep on planes….until I discovered Alka Seltzer PM Cold & Flu gel capsules. Not that I’m advocating taking unnecessary cold medicine (I had a sore throat, it was totally justified), but dang. That stuff WORKS.
• Google Translate is great, but it’s not all that good at translating into the more nuanced phrases of a language. For example, when I typed in “hand inspection” to help me ask the French TSA agents to examine my film by hand, it told me to ask for a “inspection manuelle.” I used that phrase, and the TSA agent looked utterly puzzled. Turns out the phrase for a non-x-ray inspection is “contrôle visuelle.” Oops…the more ya know!
• Jetlag is no joke, y’all. But I’m hoping the fact that I’ve only had 3.5 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours will actually work in my FAVOR, and that I’ll wake up tomorrow totally adjusted to the time zone here in France. Think positive, right?
