We’ve been planning a King’s Dominion trip for about a month now- Matt found a Groupon deal and decided we needed a day out of the house, so this Saturday was supposed to be our day! That was, until we looked at the forecast before we left and saw that Weather.com was calling for scattered thunderstorms all day, meaning most of the rides would be shut down. So we forwent our trip for now, thinking we’ll save it for my next off weekend, and instead? We spent Saturday the way I imagine non-wedding industry people would spend the day. We went to the Reston Farmer’s Market (amazing choice- there was so much to choose from!), took Lily to the dog park for the first time, went home and spent a couple of hours reading, and then finished off the evening with dinner at a local barbecue joint and an episode of Psych. It was, all in all, a pretty darn good Saturday. One of those lazy days that really made me appreciate being married to Matt because it means we can hang out whenever we want!

As always, lessons learned from the weekend:

  • If you’ve never taken your dog to a park, I strongly suggest it. Then just sit and watch them interact with the other pups- HILARIOUS. Lily, a 27-lb Corgi mix, usually thinks she’s a 95-lb Rottweiler. You should hear her bark at the dogs around our apartment complex. But at the dog park, where no one’s on a leash and they’re all free to chase one another? She turns into a total coward.
  • Beware that if you bring Pupperoni treats into the dog park, you will without a doubt become the most popular person in attendance. I was, at one time, surrounded by our Lily, and Great Dane, a Puggle mix, and two Huskies, all sniffing my hands and drooling on my jeans.
  • We’ve finally settled down in a new church! We’re SO excited- we found Reston Community Church through the Acts 29 network, and I’m just in love. Our community director wears hipster scarves, we have a social media site tailored specifically for the church, and our pastor made a reference to microbreweries in his sermon yesterday. I love RCC.
  • Never doubt God’s sovereignty, especially when it comes to bargain shopping. I walked into DSW yesterday looking for something very specific: I wanted nude-colored t-strap heels, and I wanted them ON SALE. I knew it was foolish to go in with such specific requirements, but sure enough I found two pairs that fit my exact specifications! And the pair I bought? $20. BAM.
  • Today’s the first day back for Radford students- have a GREAT day, Highlanders!

Check out this adorable camera tape dispenser Matt surprised me with on Friday! How perfect is it?
