I swore we’d never be “those” sort of dog people. You know, the ones who talk to their pups in weird voices? And I remember insisting to Matt that we would NEVER refer to ourselves as “mom & dad” for our dogs because, well, they’re canines and we’re humans.

But despite all my good/misguided intentions, we have become THOSE dog people. The ones who make up conversations between ourselves and their pups, or between the pups themselves. The ones who created a hashtag for their four-legged children. And even, I’m embarrassed to admit, the ones who refer to themselves as “mom & dad” when it comes to the dogs.

I’ve embraced it, though! I didn’t grow up with dogs, so prior to adopting Lily, I didn’t know just how much I’d learn to love her. And then when we got Sirius, a whole different sort of goofball, I learned that dogs really DO have their own personalities once I got to see how he and Lily differ!

Jenn Heller is one of those people, too. As a puppy AND kitty parent, she gets how much I love our crazy dogs. Which is why I was so, SO thrilled when I saw our watercolor portraits by Jenn! She captured Lily & Sirius to a TEE. From Lily’s cocked head to Sirius’ floppy ear, these are the perfect representation of our rescues. We finally settled on hanging them right in our entryway right above the hooks for their leashes.

And it’s not just our pups she’s captured well- she’s painted a number of my past couples’ four-legged children, too! Jenn’s currently taking on a limited number of commissions for her pet portraits- you can contact her here!

Jenn- thank you so much for capturing Lily & Sirius so perfectly. We love these so, so much! I now sort of with we had more animals to ask you to paint… but I think Matt might faint if I brought home another dog. So we’ll just keep it to two for now!
