Northern Virginia brand shoot for watercolor illustrator Riley Sheehey | Abby Grace Photography

When Matt and I first decided to put a more intentional emphasis on branding portraits, I came up with a list of DREAM clients. And guess who’s name was on that list? Riley Sheehey. So imagine how ECSTATIC I was when Riley emailed back in May, even before we’d announced my new sessions, to ask if I might be willing to consider shooting brand photos for her?

UM DUH.

Riley’s a phenomenally talented watercolor illustrator with some seriously impressive names on her client roster- Southern Living, La Croix, Kiel James Patrick, Ralph Lauren, and more. I’ve been following Riley’s Instagram for a LONG time now, absolutely in love with every single illustration she publishes, so to have the opportunity to shoot for her was such a privilege! Being in her studio and seeing originals of so many of her best pieces was a treat- I was able to watch her sketch, ink, and paint while we shot, and having the chance to get to know Riley a bit during her shoot reminded me of the importance of taking time for personal work. So much potential resides in creating for ourselves, and I can’t help but think that part of the reason Riley’s work has become SO widely popular is because she always takes time to create for herself, in addition to painting for her clients.

Riley I can’t thank you enough for asking me to photograph your brand portraits!! It was a dream come true to shoot for you, and I cannot wait to see where the rest of this year takes you and your talent. I, for one, am definitely holding out for a ballerina series :).
