Welcome back! Sorry about all these multiple-part posts recently, I just get excited about ideas and want to share everything! Typical disclaimer: these tips are what works for me. If you feel differently, no worries. I’d love to hear what works for you! So continuing on from yesterday’s Part 1 post

6. Thou shalt ask questions and solicit feedback. This is one of my favorite things to do! Conduct a random curiosity poll, like “Do you drink tea, coffee or Tang in the morning?” People will respond, resulting in an ENGAGED audience.

7. Thou shalt post on a regular basis. Don’t let more than three days go by without posting at least SOMETHING on your page. Otherwise you run the risk of people viewing your page, seeing you haven’t updated in 3 weeks, and eventually they’ll stop coming.

8. Thou shalt look at their “Insights” page at least once a week. That page is like gold. It’s essentially Google Analytics for Facebook, and I’m crazy about it. It breaks down each status, photo, link, etc. that you post and tells you how much feedback you got on each one. It also summarizes the number of people that visit each week, your total # of people you reach, etc.

9. Thou shalt not be afraid to get personal. Don’t get me wrong- you shouldn’t feel obligated to tell your fans EVERYTHING that’s going on in your life, but feel free to talk about your favorite recipes, how red and purple Skittles are the only kind worth eating, or an unintentially-hilarious sign you saw today. The Instagram or Hipstamatic apps are great for this sort of thing- people love photos!

10. Thou shalt share their knowledge. If people come to you with questions, it’s because they think you’re doing something right. Chances are you learned a lot of what you know by watching/asking others, so pay it forward and extend the same courtesy to people who may not know as much as you do. I’m not saying you have to give away everything (it can get exhausting answering emails chocked full of 15 questions), but don’t hoard your knowledge. People will love you for your generosity.

And to practice what I preach, let’s get some feedback: what are some of your Facebook “best practices?”

Happy Tuesday!
