A couple of weeks ago I blogged my process for creating the custom stationery I use with my clients. It got some really great reviews, so I’ve decided to share my DVD packaging as well! I just recently completed my DVDs, and I’m SO happy with how they turned out! I love going to the post office to mail them out, and then hearing back from my couples a few days later.

My client packaging came as a result from my overall vision for my website- rustic, chic and organic. I chose natural elements that were a continuation of my branding, and I think they turned out really well.

I’d like to take a second to thank my new best friend, Double Stick Tape (or as I refer to her, DST). DST, you’ve been there for me through the good times and the bad. I appreciate your undying faithfulness to bond those mediums together which otherwise would never have been unified as one. Thank you for being TWICE as sticky as the other kind of tape, a variety I won’t mention here. COUGH:magictape:COUGH. DST is the Prada of Scotch.

Supplies:

  • Brown wrapping paper
  • Florists’ burlap (Michael’s Craft Store)
  • Twine (Michael’s)
  • DVD cases, embossed using the process I demonstrate in the Stationery post (I order the blank cases from H-B Photo)
  • Custom DVDs (I these order from weprintdiscs.com)
  • Double stick tape

Using a double-folded edge like the one below gives your packaging more of a finished feel to it. I learned that watching Martha Stewart in the fourth grade. She used a butter knife to smooth the fold, but that seems extreme, so I just use my thumb.

The idea for the brown paper came from the Sound of Music… “brown paper packages tied up with string, these are a few of my favorite things!” I’ve ALWAYS love gifts that come in simple, brown packing paper. So I started with this base and chose textures that complement the linen texture and feel of my website. Burlap and twine were my first choices. I love how the whole thing feels so unified and natural.

Here’s the entire set together. I love the effect!

The great thing about this DVD packaging is that it could totally be applied to wrapping presents- layers, people! Layers make everything better!

Happy Wednesday!

ahhhh!! I LOVE it! I was beyond impressed when I received our CDs in the mail… and you hadn’t even started the wrapping yet! That Sound of Music song was one of my favs growing up, so I love that that is what inspired you.

As for the double fold… that is a REALLY neat idea! I am going to have to steal it. I love beautifully WRAPPING gifts, not just throwing them in some tissue gagged back. Oh Martha Stewart and her little tricks. I agree with the butter knife being a bit extreme, though.

btw… you are doing such a great job with your branding, and creating a unified, unique look for your business… as a customer, it goes a long way to see that you “have it all together,” so to speak. You are creating a look that helps to define Abby Grace Photography from everyone else 🙂 Go you!
